Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) Mandatory

eTA (1)Please be aware that effective 15-Mar-2016 most visitors arriving in Canada by air need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) issued prior to their flight.

Travellers do not need an eTA when entering Canada by land or sea.

The authorization can be obtained online. It is then electronically linked to your passport and is valid for five years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. So one does not need to renew the eTA for each trip.

The eTA costs CAD 7 for the time being.

Details to the eTA can be found on the Canadian Immigration and Citizenship web site here and here.
