Liverpool International Theatre Festival, 18 to 21-Oct-2018

18 to 21-Oct-2018

[©Astor Theatre, Liverpool] The lineup for the 2018 Liverpool International Theatre Festival is as diverse as the home countries of the performers.

A dozen theatre troupes from the Central African Republic, Egypt, Mexico, Nepal, Iran,China, Argentina, Wales, Peru, Bangladesh and Liverpool, Nova Scotia, are expected to participate in this year’s festival from Oct. 18 to 21 [2018] at the historic Astor Theatre in Liverpool. The plays cover a wide range of themes and styles, from a Chinese opera and a study of corruption and loss in Mexico to a Moliere classic from one of Bangladesh’s top theatre companies and more personal plays about family, friendship and identity from Nepal, Iran and from Liverpool’s Winds of Change Dramatic Society. (A brief description of each play is included below.)

Andrew Bursey and Jon Paterson, the festival’s artistic directors, unveiled the lineup on Thursday. Jean Robinson-Dexter, chairperson of LITF 2018, says that audiences will be entertained by the eclectic slate of innovative theatre.

“The 2018 festival is going to be a wonderful mix of new troupes representing countries that haven’t been with us before and old friends from troupes that we’re excited to welcome back. All of them will bring exciting pieces of theatre to our stage.”

Derek Edwards: Alls I’m Saying – Liverpool, 31-Mar-2017

Friday, 31-Mar-2017 / 7:30pm

[Astor Theatre] Alls I’m Saying is brazenly tentative! Like a sniper with the hiccups, Derek Edwards takes aim at life’s galling moments, exhales slowly and jerks back the trigger. A riotous evening of homegrown comedy — like taking a ride in an open golf cart with a good friend and a 6 pack.

Derek Edwards

From Vegas to St. Johns, this “Just For Laughs” veteran is universally considered to be among the comic elite. Certainly his peers think so, as evidenced by the fact that he’s a four-time nominee, and winner of Best Standup Comic – Canadian Comedy Awards, as well as a multiple Gemini nominee for Best Performance in a Comedy.

As Rick Mercer says, Everyone knows Derek is the funniest man in Canada.

Alls I’m Saying – Derek Edwards’ new 90-minute stand-up comedy show …. It’s a richly textured and enthralling cut above, delivered with pace and authority by the consummate Canadian Comedian.

2 to 5-Mar-2017

The Windos Of Change presents ‘Midsummer.com

20170302-05 Midsummer.com, LiverpoolTitania and Oberon just can’t make it work. In a fit of mutually jealous rage they inadvertently zap themselves and all the fairies into our very real world—right into the middle of a teen summer theatre camp that happens to be mounting A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Now Puck and the fairies must find a way to reignite the love between their king and queen, or the whole group will be stuck here forever. But love is not as simple as it first appears. And with real life mirroring the Bard’s greatest comedy, it’ll take more than a little magic to get Cupid to hit the right targets!

The Winds of Change Society presents this full length comedy written by Flip Kobler and Cindy Marcus.
As screenwriters, Flip Kobler and Cindy Marcus spent 5 years at Disney where they wrote Lion King II: Simba’s Pride, as well as Beauty and the Beast II, and the sequels to Pocohantas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Lady and the Tramp.
