El Niño is expected to weaken but slowly

2015 recorded one of the strongest El Niños. From November it has been slowly weakening with a transition expected to neutral conditions by next summer, although some models predict El Niño to last for much of 2016. Let’s summarize the main facts.

2015 officially the warmest year in recorded history

2015 has officially been declared the warmest year in recorded history, The New York Times reports. The findings confirmed by scientists this week support earlier predictions that last year would be the Earth’s warmest. Last year was also the 19th consecutive year that temperatures reached above-average levels globally.
