Honky Tonk Blues Night

Saturday, 4-Jun-2016 / 8pm

[20160604 Honky Tonk BluesAstor Theatre] Guitar fans, mark June 4th [2016] on your calendar for Honky Tonk Blues Night at the Astor Theatre [Liverpool]. Three of the most colorful and entertaining performers on the east coast combine for one amazing night of honky tonk and blues guitar work.

A killer guitarist, a classically-trained pianist, a sincere, dynamic songwriter, and an incomparable singer; Christine Campbell is truly a rare, multi-faceted talent. Ranging from a raspy, rocking powerhouse to a soft, heartstring-tugging chanteuse, she brings entire audiences to a hush – and then to their feet.

Ryan Cook is an award-winning singer/songwriter who’s performed with Country purists like Dwight Yoakam, Roseanne Cash, & Travis Tritt. His latest project The Valley Singers combines thumb-picking guitar styles with a rotating cast of harmony singers inspired by American Jazz/Country music from the 1940’s and 50’s.

John Campbelljohn makes the most of the song in his solo acoustic blues performances. Campbelljohn soulfully commands the stage with rich vocals, while his powerfully prolific technique on guitar or trusty dobro lap steel further embellishes each composition. He was Nominated for three 2015 Maple Blues Awards and won the 2016 ECMA Blues Recording of the Year.

Carroll Baker (1)Carroll Baker is as dedicated to her fans as they are to her and she strives to present the very best possible concert each and every time. This time around, her concert, A Special Evening With Carroll Baker, will feature many of her popular hit songs. It will also feature Gospel music which she is so loved for, and a new section that is dedicated to some of her favorite singers and their hits. She tries to stay as true to each of these legendary songs as she can, but there is definitely something different that is found in each song, it is called the Carroll Baker style and that is her signature voice. Instantly recognizable, powerful and dripping with raw emotion. Be prepared to laugh because you will, she is a very humorous entertainer telling jokes that are most often directed at herself. She will tug at your heart strings and bring tears to your eyes when she sings sad songs, and make you want to get up and dance to some of the uptempo music. This is a show for all ages and not to be missed.

Carroll Baker is one of the most awarded musical performers in Canada, she is a Lady of Firsts, she simply is Canada’s First Lady of Country Music and a recipient of the Order Of Canada.

The Country Kids @ QPEC

Friday, 22-Apr-2016 / 9pm

Jenney, Garry and Ruth Parker have been singing together since they were very small. They took a year or so of piano lessons early on, but the first instrument that seriously interested them was the guitar. Garry began playing guitar when he was 8 years old and gradually came to love it. Jenney and Ruth, not wanting to be left behind, took up the mandolin and fiddle about a year later.

[QPEC] The Parker children began stage performance at the ages of 4-5 years old, singing and acting out plays through church and private school.

Their first secular stage appearance was on November 26, 2013, when their Aunt Lois Lutz invited them to join her in a 10-minute segment on Eastlink’s Christmas Mommies and Daddies in Aylesford, NS. The Lion’s Club, who hosted this event, then invited Lois and the kids to their stage the following January. This is when the Country Kids became a band, and they have been entertaining many wonderful, music-loving audiences throughout this part of Nova Scotia (within a 150-mile radius of home).

In May, Kristina McCulley joined the group. Her sweet, yodeling voice was a great addition to the band. She sang with the Country Kids for about 9 months, during which time they recorded their first CD, entitled “The Country Kids.”

At the present time, the three Country Kids play the guitar, base, fiddle, and mandolin. They have a very busy schedule, averaging four performances per month, including seniors’ events, church services, fund raisers, variety shows, festivals, and local fairs.

Following up their performance at the Hank Snow Country Tribute make sure you do not miss this special evening at Queens Place Emera Centre!

Fun for the entire family!
