Queens Place Emera Centre Marks 3rd Anniversary

[Region of Queens Municipality] December 10, 2014, Liverpool, NS: What do Travis Tritt, Zumba, and the Czech Republic all have in common? Over the past three years, all have been part of the events schedule at Queens Place Emera Centre in Liverpool. Since its grand opening on December 19th, 2011, Queens Place Emera Centre has been host to many events of a local, provincial, and national caliber. This Friday, Dec. 19 from 6 – 9:00 pm, the public is invited to be part of the 3rd Anniversary Celebrations at an open house event that includes a free public skate, musical entertainment by the Queens County Children’s Choir, a free Christmas Fitness class, refreshments being served in the lobby and a visit from Santa Claus.

“We are happy to be celebrating our facility’s third year by welcoming the public to join us Friday, December 19. A number of complimentary activities are planned throughout the evening. There is something for everyone, from a public skate to musical entertainment, to a fitness class,” said Christopher Clarke, Mayor of the Region of Queens Municipality. “Over the past three years, we have hosted many memorable events, all of which have had a positive impact on our community and businesses. In addition to the events planned, there will be prize draws and a visit from Santa Claus.”

Free public skating will be held from 6:00 – 7:30 pm, helmets are recommended. Mayor Clarke will speak at 6:45 pm, followed by the Queens County Children’s Choir under the direction of Kim Umphrey. Refreshments will be served from 7:00 – 8:00pm, and from 8 – 8:30 pm, there will be a free fitness class in the fitness studio. Participation in the class is limited to 20, and those wearing a Santa hat to class will receive a voucher for a free fitness class. During the party, there will be ballot boxes throughout the facility with great draw prizes.

“We are grateful for the support that the residents of Queens have shown in supporting the events that have come to Queens Place, not only through attending and cheering for the sports and cultural events, but in being actively involved in organizing and volunteering for the events,” said Mayor Clarke. “From the Hank Snow Tribute Weekend, to weekly arena users such as our local minor hockey and figure skating clubs, to the M&M Meatshops Canadian Junior Curling Championships, to elite hockey groups of the Western Hurricanes and the Liverpool Privateers Junior B Hockey Club, and many, many more, Queens Place Emera Centre has been embraced by the community. We have heard so much praise from across the province and nationally for the facility itself, and the events that have been offered there. As we reflect on the many successes of the past, we look forward to the future and the successes to come. We are happy to be celebrating three great years with the community and invite everyone to come and enjoy Queens Place Emera Centre with us.”

Queens Place Emera Centre is located at 50 Queens Place Drive, Liverpool, and is a municipally owned recreational facility featuring an NHL sized arena, a fitness centre, a two lane indoor track, a fitness studio, and meeting rooms.
