[update] Spring Weight Restrictions 2020 in Effect

Spring Weight Restrictions for Queens County have been lifted on Sunday, 26-Apr-2020/11:59pm!

Spring (Weight) Restrictions, sometimes called Load Restrictions, are set in effect today, Monday, 2-Mar-2020 to about mid May to prevent road damage from heavy vehicles during spring thaw.

Heavy commercial vehicles will not be allowed to travel on specified roads throughout the province. The weight restrictions on heavy trucks are necessary during the spring thaw to help protect roads that are weakened by mild and wet weather.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal monitors air and road temperatures, and works closely with the trucking industry and Environment Canada to determine the date that best protects the province’s road surfaces.

The department monitors conditions throughout spring so roads can be opened or closed as needed.

While we are still three weeks from spring the current comparably mild climate with temperatures changing from about minus 10 to plus 10 Celsius and back – aided by the recent heavy rains, create spring like conditions for our community roads. Hence it makes only sense to apply these weight restrictions to our private FoxCreek community roads too!

While winter months with solid frozen roads usually are unproblematic, we remind our community members to take road conditions into consideration when bringing heavy equipment in to do construction work or deliveries.

If construction work cannot be avoided please take it into your own hands to fix road damage to the respective community roads should it occur.

Thank you!
