The Medway Area Through Time
MedwayArea.org happily announces that the bi-annual Port Medway History Show is back!
The show is a celebration of the history of the Medway River area from Port Medway up river to Mill Village, Charleston and Greenfield, spanning the approximate 10,000 years from the retreat of the glaciers to the dawn of the space age. Now in its fifth year, this major exhibit features music, artifacts, photos, maps, videos, films, tours and more!
For 2015, the show is titled
The Medway Area Through Time – 10’000 Years of Connections
In addition to an amazing collection of historical photographs and documents, there will be videos profiling the Old Cemetery as well as current photos of Port and the Cemetery taken from high above by a drone camera … state of the art – you might call this “From Stone Age to Space Age”.
Of special interest, we will premiere the trailer to our Earth Station Satellite video…currently in production, featuring interviews with employees who worked at the former Teleglobe station in Charleston.
The Port Medway History Show opens with live music and a reception on 17-July-2015 from 5pm-8pm and then continue on 18-Jul & 19-Jul from 10am until 6pm.
It’s a fascinating look at life along the Medway in the previous century until today. You won’t be disappointed, so please come down to the Warehouse building in Port Medway Lighthouse Park.

Port Medway Reader’s Festival – Philip Slayton
Philip Slayton taught law at McGill University and was the dean of law at the University of Western Ontario before turning to legal practice. He worked at a major Canadian law firm on Bay Street. Since retiring from the practice of law in 2000, he has become the author of two best-selling books: Lawyers Gone Bad: Money, Sex and Madness in Canada’s Legal Profession, published in hard cover by Viking Canada in 2007, in paperback by Penguin Canada in 2008, and as an ebook in 2010; and Mighty Judgment: How the Supreme Court of Canada Runs Your Life, published in hard cover and as an ebook in 2011 by Allen Lane and as a paperback by Penguin Canada in 2012. In 2014 he independently published Bay Street: A Novel, a legal thriller. Philip’s latest book is Mayors Gone Bad, a series of profiles of recent and current Canadian mayors gone amok.
Port Medway Reader’s Festival 2015
The Port Medway Reader’s Festival 2015 – one of Canada’s premier literary festivals – takes place in July and August.

Port Medway Reader’s Festival – David Adams Richards

David Adams Richards
David Adams Richards–novelist, poet, essayist, screenwriter–was born in New Brunswick. His first novel, The Coming of Winter, was published in 1974, and since then he’s written fourteen more. He has received Gemini Awards for Small Gifts and For Those Who Hunt The Wounded Down, the Alden Nowlan Award for Excellence in the Arts, and the Canadian Authors Association Award for his novel Evening Snow Will Bring Such Peace. Richards is one of only three writers to have won in both the fiction and non-fiction categories of the Governor-General’s Award. He won the 1988 fiction award for Nights Below Station Street and the 1998 non-fiction award for Lines on the Water: A Fisherman’s Life on the Miramichi. He was also a co-winner of the 2000 Giller Prize for Mercy Among the Children. In 2009, he was made a Member of the Order of Canada “for his contributions to the Canadian literary scene as an essayist, screenwriter and writer of fiction and non-fiction”. In 2011 he received the Matt Cohen Prize.

Michael Crummey
Michael Crummey has published nine books of poetry and fiction. Galore won the Canadian Authors’ Association Fiction Award, the Commonwealth Prize (Canada & Caribbean Region), and was shortlisted for the International IMPAC Dublin Award and the Governor-General’s Award. Sweetland was a national bestseller and a finalist for the 2014 Governor-General’s Award and the BMO Winterset Award. His most recent poetry collection is Under the Keel (Anansi, 2013). He lives in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Queens County Fair 2015
[©2015 novascotia.ca] The annual Queens County Fair runs for five days from 15-Sep to 19-Sep-2015 with Draft Horse Show Classes and Pulls, Oxen Classes and Pulls with log yarding competitions and a relay race for the oxen.
The Light horses compete in riding classes as well as gaming classes.
Several Farms bring their beef cattle to show off their product.
