Spring/March Equinox, 20-Mar-2016@01:30am ADT

March equinox – equal day and night, nearly

There are two equinoxes every year – in March and September – when the Sun shines directly on the equator and the length of night and day are nearly equal, but not quite.

Spring in the north, fall in the south

Equinoxes and solstices are opposite on either side of the equator, and the March equinox is also known as the “spring (vernal) equinox” in the northern hemisphere and as the “autumnal (fall) equinox” in the southern hemisphere. Continue reading Spring/March Equinox, 20-Mar-2016@01:30am ADT

El Niño is expected to weaken but slowly

2015 recorded one of the strongest El Niños. From November it has been slowly weakening with a transition expected to neutral conditions by next summer, although some models predict El Niño to last for much of 2016. Let’s summarize the main facts.

[©2016 WeatherCast] By historical standards to be classified as a complete El Niño episode, the Oceanic Niño Index (ONI) needs to have a positive ONI greater or equal to +0.5C in the Sea Surface Temperature (SST) for a period of at least 5 consecutive months. DST starts in USA and Canada on 13-Mar-2016

Remember: Sunday, March 13, 2016

Daylight Saving Time (DST) starts in USA and Canada !!!

The term “spring forward – fall back” is meant to trigger your memory to set your clocks forward one hour in the spring at the start of DST, and one hour back in the fall when DST ends.

DST+1In most of the United States, Canada, and Mexico’s northern border cities when local standard time is about to reach Sunday, March 13, 2016, 02:00h (2am) clocks are turned forward 1 hour to Sunday, March 13, 2016, 03:00h (3am) local daylight time instead.

Sunrise and sunset will be about 1 hour later on Mar 13, 2016 than the day before. There will be more light in the evening.

A different way to remember which direction to set your clock for Daylight Saving Time (DST) is that in the spring, you bring out (or forward) the garden furniture (clocks are set 1 hour ahead), and in the fall you put them back (clocks are set 1 hour back).

Is it Daylight Saving Time or Daylight Savings Time?
